Reflecting on a historic milestone: How the Presidential visit has strengthened Kitebi Secondary School

To-date, Kitebi Secondary School continues to reflect on one of the most significant milestones in its history, which is the special visit by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, and the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, during the launch of the National Patriotism Environmental Protection Campaign, which was held at the school premises.

The visit marked an important chapter in the school’s development. During the event, the President and the First Lady planted a commemorative tree as a symbol of environmental conservation and commissioned two newly completed school buildings, in the names, Janet K Museveni and Y.K Museveni, something that reaffirms the importance of investing in quality learning environments.

The occasion also recognised the remarkable progress made by Kitebi Secondary School under the leadership of Head Teacher Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya. The President commended the school’s transformation and pledged Government support through the provision of a school bus and the construction of a storage classroom.

Today, both pledges have been fulfilled, further improving the school’s infrastructure and enhancing service delivery to learners.

Reflecting on the milestone, Hajj Kamulegeya expresses gratitude to the Government of Uganda for honouring its commitments and for its continued investment in education.

“We remain grateful for the confidence that was placed in our school. The fulfilment of these pledges has strengthened our ability to provide a better learning environment for our students, and it encourages us to continue striving for excellence,” he says.

Addressing learners during the visit, Maama Janet urged young people to always uphold discipline through avoiding sexual immorality, drug abuse and sports betting. She encouraged them to focus on education, values and responsible citizenship as foundations for a successful future.

She also commended Kitebi Secondary School for the remarkable progress it had made over the years and encouraged other schools to emulate its commitment to academic excellence, discipline, effective leadership and the holistic development of learners.

In particular, Maama Janet recognised the efforts of Head Teacher Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya in transforming Kitebi Secondary School into a model Universal Secondary Education (USE) institution. She noted that the school’s steady growth in enrolment, improved infrastructure, academic performance and emphasis on nurturing learners’ talents demonstrated what could be achieved through visionary leadership, commitment and prudent management.

She urged leaders of other schools to draw lessons from Kitebi Secondary School’s journey, emphasising that with dedication, accountability and a learner-centred approach, government-aided schools can provide quality education and become centres of excellence despite the challenges they may face.

As Kitebi Secondary School continues to grow, the Presidential visit remains a lasting reminder of the value of visionary leadership, partnership and sustained investment in education. The school remains committed to providing quality education while nurturing learners who are academically competent, morally upright and prepared to contribute positively to society.
