Tracing the campaign’s journey
The magazine begins by providing the background of the National Secondary School Students’ Dropout Reduction Campaign, explaining how the initiative was started in 2023 in response to the growing need to address the challenges that force young people out of school.

It traces the campaign’s development from its first activities to the second edition, highlighting the commitment of Kitebi Secondary School and its partners to promoting school retention and creating greater awareness among learners, parents, educators and other stakeholders.
The publication also features memories from the 2023 campaign, giving readers an opportunity to look back at the people, activities and moments that shaped the beginning of the initiative. Through photographs and reflections, the section captures the early stages of a campaign that has continued to grow in scope and ambition.

The 2026 campaign
A major part of the magazine focuses on the 2026 National Secondary School Students’ Dropout Reduction Campaign, which was recently conducted at Kitebi Secondary School on 4th September, 2026.
The campaign brought together over 350 learners from various schools across the country and a range of speakers who shared knowledge and practical guidance on issues affecting young people’s decisions, education and future.

The 2026 edition was held under the theme “Criminality as a Major Cause of Secondary School Dropouts in Uganda,” drawing attention to the relationship between crime, negative influences and school retention.
The magazine takes readers through the journey of the campaign, documenting the different sessions and highlighting the key messages delivered to the learners.

Messages that inspired learners
The publication features contributions and key messages from the different speakers who interacted with the both the male and female youth throughout the campaign.

Their messages addressed a range of issues, including mindset change, education, personal responsibility, integrity, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, decision-making, peer influence and the importance of staying in school.

The speakers challenged learners to understand their value, make responsible choices and recognise that the decisions they make while still young can have a lasting impact on their future.
The magazine thus preserves these messages as an important record of the knowledge and guidance shared during the campaign, while also making the lessons accessible to a wider audience beyond those who attended the sessions.

Having been empowered, we hope the youth can be transformed and inspired to make responsible choices, remain focused on their education, and pursue a positive and productive future.

A message from Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya
The magazine also carries a message from Adv. Kamulegeya Muhammed (Hajj), Headteacher and Team Leader of Kitebi Secondary School, reflecting on the journey of the campaign and the vision behind the initiative.
He further adds his voice to the fight against school dropout, sharing key messages that encourage young people to remain focused on their education, make responsible choices and embrace opportunities that can positively shape their future.

Preserving a journey and inspiring the future
Beyond documenting the activities of the campaign, the magazine serves as a record of Kitebi Secondary School’s commitment to keeping learners in school and helping young people make choices that protect their education and future.
It brings together history, memories, photographs, personal messages and lessons from the campaign in one publication, allowing readers to reflect on where the initiative started, how it has developed and the vision for the future.
The first edition is therefore not only a publication about the campaign, but also a reflection of the people and ideas that have contributed to its growth.

As Kitebi Secondary School continues to champion the fight against secondary school dropout, the magazine provides an opportunity to share the campaign’s experiences more widely and encourage continued collaboration in creating an environment where every learner has the opportunity to remain in school, develop their potential and prepare for a productive future.
PS: The first edition of the National Secondary School Students’ Dropout Reduction Campaign magazine is now available on all the school’s social media platforms as part of Kitebi Secondary School’s continued effort to document, share and strengthen the campaign’s message.
