Mutebi House emerges overall winner in Kitebi SS 2026 inter-house sports competitions
Sports and games remain an important part of education. These serve several benefits such as providing learners with opportunities to develop physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, resilience and leadership beyond the classroom.

Therefore, through participation in sporting activities, learners learn to work towards common goals, respect their opponents, manage both victory and defeat, and appreciate the value of collective effort.

At Kitebi Secondary School, these values are nurtured through friendly matches, inter-house sports competitions, and participation in national and international sporting events. The activities bring learners together to compete in different sporting disciplines while promoting unity, school spirit, teamwork and healthy competition.

During the 2026 inter-house competitions that were held within the school premises, the learners participated in a range of activities, including netball, volleyball, football and board games such as ludo, giving them opportunities to demonstrate their abilities across different fields.
Beyond showcasing their talents, the activities provided a platform for learners to interact, build friendships and represent their respective houses in the pursuit of sporting excellence.

Competing across different sporting disciplines
The inter-house sports competitions, held during the second term, provided learners with an opportunity to demonstrate their house spirit by participating in various games organised by the school.

On the playing fields, learners took part in football, netball and volleyball, where coordination, communication and collective effort were essential to competing effectively. The matches provided an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their sporting abilities while representing their houses.

As a school committed to developing critical thinkers, Kitebi Secondary School also incorporated board games such as ludo into the competitions.

These games added another dimension to the activities by challenging learners to think strategically, exercise patience and make decisions, demonstrating that sports and games develop not only physical abilities but also mental agility and problem-solving skills.

The variety of activities allowed learners with different interests and abilities to participate and contribute to their houses’ overall performance.
It is thus important to understand that inter-house competitions also serve as a critical avenue for promoting discipline and sportsmanship among learners. With this, participants are encouraged to respect the rules of each game, acknowledge their opponents’ efforts and accept results in the spirit of fair competition.

For the school community, the activities provide an opportunity to appreciate learners’ talents outside the academic setting while encouraging a balanced approach to education that recognises physical, social and personal development.
Mutebi House takes the overall title
Following the conclusion of the various sporting activities, the sports officials compiled the results to determine the overall standings of the competing houses.

Mutebi House, identified by its purple colour, emerged as the overall winner of the inter-house sports competitions. In recognition of this achievement, the house earned the school’s traditional reward of a cow, marking another occasion for its members to celebrate their collective effort and success.
Metesa House finished in second position, followed by Mbogo House in third place. Kagere House came fourth, while Ssemakokiro House finished fifth.

The final standings reflected the houses’ overall performance across the different sporting disciplines, recognising the participation and efforts of learners throughout the competitions.
For Mutebi House, the victory marked an achievement for its members, while the results provided the other houses with an opportunity to reflect on their performances and prepare for future competitions. Beyond the rankings, the event reinforced the importance of teamwork, determination and the love and willingness for sports activities among learners.

Building unity through sports
Beyond the final standings, inter-house sports competitions contribute to the wider educational experience by encouraging learners to develop qualities that are valuable both within and outside school.
Team sports teach learners the importance of cooperation, communication and shared responsibility, while individual and board games encourage concentration, patience and strategic thinking. Participation also helps learners appreciate the importance of regular physical activity and provides an opportunity to manage stress associated with academic demands.

Equally important is the spirit of healthy competition. While winning provides an opportunity for celebration, participation offers lessons in perseverance, respect and the ability to learn from setbacks.
At Kitebi Secondary School, the inter-house competitions therefore represent more than a contest for positions and prizes. They provide a platform for learners to discover and nurture their abilities, strengthen relationships across the school community and develop a sense of belonging through their respective houses.

As the school recognises Mutebi House for its overall victory, the competitions also reaffirm the value of giving learners opportunities to participate in sports and games as part of a well-rounded education.
