Kitebi SS S4 candidates appreciate teachers, parents ahead of UNEB examinations

As Senior Four learners at Kitebi Secondary School prepare to begin their Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) examinations next week, they were given an opportunity during the Monday assembly on October 5, 2026, to reflect on their journey at the school and the lessons they have received along the way.

The opportunity, extended to them by the Team Leader, Adv. Hajj Kamulegeya Muhammed, allowed the learners to express their appreciation to their teachers, parents and school leadership for the support, guidance and encouragement they have received throughout their studies.

Furthermore, the reflections came ahead of the Candidates’ Dedication Day scheduled for Wednesday, when they will be prayed for, encouraged and prepared as they enter the final stage of their O and A level education.

Headteacher’s address

Addressing the learners during the assembly, Adv. Kamulegeya explained to the candidates that the opportunity to address a gathering of more than 4,000 people was significant and would remain an important part of their school history.

He thus encouraged the learners to use every available opportunity and time responsibly by doing what is right and fulfilling their responsibilities. He noted that when individuals perform their duties diligently and at the right time, they enable people in authority to carry out their responsibilities without unnecessary interference, stress or delays in service delivery.

The Team Leader also used the assembly to announce the outstanding staff members for September, recognising the best performer, first runner-up and second runner-up in each category.

Among the class teachers, Ssekanjako Arafat was recognised as the most outstanding, followed by Nalinya Sawuyah and Napera Sawudah as the first and second runners-up, respectively.

In the Heads of Department category, Grace Nyakato emerged as the most outstanding, with Prossy and Kifampo Muhammad taking the first and second runner-up positions.

Among the support staff, Kato Daniel was recognised as the most outstanding, followed by Nalwoga Mary and Nambula Harriet.

In the Senior Managers category, Mawanda Ismail was recognised as the most outstanding, with Bisaso Fred and Atuhaire Jackline named first and second runners-up, respectively.

Congratulating the recognised staff members, Adv. Hajj Kamulegeya said their commitment and performance deserved appreciation. He further announced that the outstanding staff would be formally appreciated by the Board of Governors during the upcoming Dedication Day.

S.4 learners’ testimonies

With humility, appreciation and thoughtfulness, the testimonies of the candidates centred on preparation, discipline, time management, gratitude and the importance of making every moment count as they approach the examinations.

The candidates including, Sentale Trevor, Tebusweke John, Arinda Sasha, Mutikke Joram reflections also came as the world marked International Teachers’ Day, a day dedicated to recognising the contribution of teachers and the important role they play in shaping learners, communities and society.

Teachers do more than deliver lessons in classrooms. They guide learners in developing discipline, managing their time, building confidence and making responsible decisions. Through their daily interaction with learners, teachers also contribute to the development of values and attitudes that can influence young people long after they leave school.

For the S4 candidates, these lessons have been an important part of their preparation for examinations and life beyond school.

The candidates particularly appreciated their teachers, including Ms Nassejje Stella and Ms Nalinya Sawuyah, among others, for the guidance they have offered them throughout their studies. They noted that their teachers had not only helped them understand academic subjects but had also taught them practical lessons about time management, discipline and commitment.

The candidates thus emphasized that such guidance has helped them understand that success in examinations requires more than just academic ability, but also demands consistency, self-discipline and the ability to use time responsibly.

They also expressed appreciation to teachers who had inspired them to believe in their abilities and remain focused on their academic goals, particularly at a time when the pressure of examinations can easily cause anxiety among candidates.

Beyond their teachers, the learners recognised the role played by their parents and guardians in supporting their education. They thanked their parents for the sacrifices made to keep them in school, provide for their educational needs and encourage them throughout their academic journey. For the candidates, they further noted that the support they receive from home and school is an important part of reaching this stage of their education.

They also extended their appreciation to the Team Leader, Adv. Kamulegeya, for his visionary leadership and opportunities he provides to learners while in school. They added that the opportunity to speak during the assembly gave them a platform to acknowledge the people who have contributed to their journey while also reflecting on the responsibility that now rests on them as candidates.

Advice to continuing learners

As they prepare to sit their examinations, the S4 learners also used the opportunity to advise their fellow students, particularly the Senior Three learners who will soon take on the responsibility of becoming the school’s senior candidates.

They encouraged them not to waste the time available to them but instead begin preparing early for their future examinations.

The learners urged the Senior Threes to treat every moment as valuable, develop a culture of discipline and avoid postponing their academic preparation until examinations are close.

Their message was that success is built through consistent effort rather than last-minute preparation.

They also encouraged other learners to listen to their teachers, make good use of the guidance they receive and develop habits that will help them both academically and personally.

For the S4 candidates, the assembly was therefore more than a routine gathering. It became an opportunity to look back on the people and lessons that have shaped their journey, express gratitude and encourage those coming behind them.

With their examinations now only days away, the learners are moving into a period that will test not only what they have learnt in class but also the discipline, time management and commitment they have developed along the way.

Their message was clear: appreciate those who have supported the journey, remain disciplined and make every remaining moment count.
