Kitebi SS Team Leader extends support to strengthen vocational education at Sayidina Abubakar Secondary School

During the 4th VTAB Graduation Ceremony at Sayidina Abubakar Secondary School in Butambala District the Chief Guest, Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya, and Team Leader of Kitebi Secondary School, extended support towards strengthening the school’s vocational and technical education programme.

Hajj Kamulegeya noted that vocational and technical education plays an important role in equipping young people with practical skills that can enable them to secure employment, create their own opportunities, and contribute to national development. Therefore, supporting initiatives that transform a country is vital.

He contributed Shs500,000 towards the purchase of vocational workshop tools to support learners during their practical training. According to the Head Teacher of Sayidina Abubakar SS, he said the support will help learners access some of the equipment required during their training and assessments. The contribution followed a concern raised by the school administration regarding the need for additional tools to improve practical learning among students pursuing vocational courses.

Additionally, on the behalf of Kitebi SS, he contributed support towards addressing the school’s water challenge through the provision of a 10,000-litre water storage tank, which will help improve access to clean and safe water for learners and staff.

The school management expressed its sincere appreciation for Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya’s support through a special presentation by the learners, the commissioning of a girls’ sanitary pads facility named in his honour, and the presentation of an appreciation award in recognition of his contribution to the school. The administration noted that partnerships and contributions that strengthen learning facilities play a vital role in creating a conducive learning environment where learners can acquire relevant skills and prepare for future opportunities.

The support reflects the growing importance of collaboration in promoting vocational and technical education, as schools continue to equip learners with practical competencies needed in today’s changing world of work.

The ceremony saw 190 learners presented for VTAB assessments in different occupational areas, including tailoring, baking, crop farming, and other vocational disciplines. Through such programmes, learners are given an opportunity to develop hands-on skills alongside their academic education. Hajj Kamulegeya encouraged the school to continue promoting vocational training, noting that practical skills are increasingly important in preparing young people for the demands of the labour market.
