Kitebi SS launches UNEB Examination facility as PS Lamaro applauds progress

During a thanksgiving ceremony at Kitebi Secondary School, the school community celebrated a significant milestone in its journey of growth and transformation as Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya, marked four years of service as Team Leader. The occasion, held in 2023, brought together government officials, education leaders, religious leaders, parents, teachers, learners and other stakeholders to reflect on the remarkable progress achieved under his leadership while reaffirming a shared commitment to advancing quality education.

The thanksgiving ceremony served as both a celebration of achievements and an opportunity to appreciate the partnerships that had contributed to the school’s rapid transformation. Over the four years, Kitebi Secondary School had witnessed notable improvements in infrastructure, increased learner enrolment, enhanced academic programmes and strengthened community participation, positioning the institution as one of the fast-growing government secondary schools in Kampala.

As part of the event’s activities, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ms. Lamaro Ketty, officiated the commissioning of newly completed facilities at the school, including a dedicated UNEB examination facility and modern sanitation facilities aimed at improving learners’ welfare and supporting the needs of the school’s growing population.

While commissioning the facilities, Ms. Lamaro commended the leadership of Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya for demonstrating vision, accountability and a strong commitment to improving the learning environment despite the challenges associated with managing a rapidly growing school.

She observed that Kitebi Secondary School is a practical example of how effective leadership, teamwork and community support can transform a public school, noting that if more institutions embrace a similar approach, Uganda would make significant strides in improving the quality of education.

The Permanent Secretary further applauded the teachers, parents, School Management Committee and Board of Governors for supporting initiatives that had enabled the school to expand its infrastructure while maintaining its commitment to academic excellence and learner discipline.

Delivering his message during the ceremony, Rev. Fr. Deogratious Kateregga Kibbi challenged leaders entrusted with public office to utilise their positions responsibly by creating lasting impact within the communities they serve. He encouraged public servants to ensure that their legacy would be measured not by the offices they held, but by the positive and sustainable changes they left behind.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity for the Kitebi Secondary School community to express gratitude to the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, for her continued support towards the development of education in Uganda. As a symbol of appreciation, the school presented her with an appreciation award carrying the heartfelt inscription, “With Love, Mama Janet, from Kitebi SS,” in recognition of her unwavering commitment to improving education standards across the country.

Following the commissioning, Ms. Lamogi Ketty, accompanied by education officials and other invited guests, toured various facilities across the school to witness the progress that had been achieved over the previous four years. The inspection highlighted the institution’s continued investment in infrastructure aimed at providing a conducive teaching and learning environment.

During the tour, Hajj Muhammed Kamulegeya appealed for additional government support to construct more classroom blocks and other essential facilities capable of accommodating the growing student population.

However, on November 14, 2025, the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Museveni through the First Lady, Ms Museveni, extended support to Kitebi Secondary School by providing funds towards the construction of additional classroom facilities, responding to the school’s growing need for more learning spaces as a result of increasing enrolment.

The school also showcased the creativity, innovation and practical skills of its learners through a science exhibition. The different officials toured the exhibition stalls appreciating the different projects and innovations developed by the learners. These interacted with learners as they presented their scientific projects, demonstrating the school’s commitment to promoting practical learning, creativity and problem-solving skills among students.

Looking back today, the 2023 thanksgiving ceremony remains one of the defining moments in the school’s transformation journey. It not only marked four years of Hajj Kamulegeya’s leadership, but also the collective efforts of government, parents, teachers, learners and development partners whose contributions continue to lay a strong foundation for the transformation and success that Kitebi Secondary School continues to enjoy.
