Musical performances
Music formed a central part of the tributes, with the school choir and the Public Relations (PR) team choir presenting songs dedicated to Kamulegeya in honour of his seven years of service.
The school choir, led by Ms Sandrah Nabaale, presented two songs that had been recorded and played back as the learners performed along to the music. Their presentation added to the celebratory atmosphere, bringing together the students through music as they joined in recognising the Team Leader’s milestone.

The PR team choir, led by Mr Gabriel Cikaka, also presented a special song dedicated to Kamulegeya. Documentary
The school’s Public Relations team also screened a documentary produced specifically for the occasion, bringing together messages of appreciation from staff members, students, community members and other people who have worked with or interacted with Adv. Kamulegeya during his time at Kitebi Secondary School.
Through the different contributions, the documentary reflected on his leadership journey, the developments recorded at the school and the experiences of those who have witnessed his work. It provided an opportunity for members of the school community to express, in their own words, what his leadership has meant to them and the lessons they have drawn from his service.
Among the qualities highlighted were hard work, determination, vision, mentorship and the ability to unite people around a common purpose. Contributors also reflected on his willingness to advocate for the welfare of others, his recognition of individual talents and his continued consideration of former students in the wider life of the school.
His role as a mentor and a leader who encourages others to develop their potential also emerged among the themes of the documentary. The contributions portrayed leadership not merely as the responsibility of managing an institution, but also as an opportunity to inspire people, identify their abilities and create an environment in which they can contribute to a shared vision.
The documentary therefore served both as a tribute to Adv. Kamulegeya and as a record of the experiences, values and lessons associated with his seven years at the school. By bringing together voices from different sections of the community, the production underscored the collective nature of the milestone and the importance of recognising the people whose efforts contribute to the growth of an educational institution.

Adv. Kamulegeya reflects on seven years of leadership
In his address, Adv. Haj. Kamulegeya Muhammed, the Team Leader of Kitebi Secondary School, traced his appointment to October 16th 2019, describing his arrival at the institution as part of God’s plan for his professional journey. He acknowledged that Kitebi Secondary School had not initially been his preferred destination and that his appointment came with its own circumstances. However, he embraced the responsibility and set out to transform the school into the modern institution he envisioned.
He explained that upon assuming leadership, he assessed the school’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats through a SWOT analysis, and by working with stakeholders, he subsequently developed a five-year school development strategic plan covering 2020 to 2024, which identified 11 strategic pillars to guide the institution’s development.
The pillars included academic performance, discipline, infrastructure development, public relations, financial management, governance, human resource development, staff and student welfare, co-curricular programmes, safety and security, and technological advancement.

He noted that the strategic plan provided a framework for addressing the school’s needs and directing efforts towards institutional growth. Reflecting on the progress made across the identified areas, Adv. Kamulegeya pointed to the visit by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, on April 19, 2024, as one of the significant milestones in the school’s journey.

He expressed gratitude to the Government of Uganda and the Ministry of Education and Sports for their continued support, particularly acknowledging the President’s contribution to the school’s development and the provision of a Scania bus in 2025.

Recognising that the transformation of an institution requires the commitment of many people, Adv. Kamulegeya thanked the Board of Governors, parents, teachers, non-teaching staff, senior management, development partners, former students and the wider school community for their respective contributions. He also acknowledged his family for standing by him and supporting him as he discharged his leadership responsibilities.
Adv. Kamulegeya’s advice to learners
Addressing the learners, Adv. Kamulegeya reminded them that the purpose of education extends beyond academic achievement to the development of character, values and a sense of responsibility.

He urged students to take their studies seriously, respect their teachers and other members of staff, observe school rules, protect school property and use their time productively. He further encouraged them to embrace discipline, honesty, hard work, respect and patriotism, noting that education should prepare them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the country.
“Remember, you are the reason for the institution to exist,” he reminded the learners, emphasising their central place in the institution’s mission and the responsibility they carry in shaping its future.

He also reflected on the lessons he had learnt from leading the school over the past seven years, particularly the importance of listening, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence despite differences. His reflections highlighted the need for mutual understanding between school leaders and learners, as well as the importance of creating an environment in which people can work together towards common goals.

A call for unity and continued progress
While celebrating the achievements registered during his tenure, Adv. Kamulegeya acknowledged that the school still had more work to undertake. He emphasised that sustaining the progress made would require unity, cooperation and the continued commitment of all stakeholders.
“A milestone allows us to pause, but it should never become an excuse to stop moving forward,” he said, reminding the school community that the anniversary was not merely an occasion to celebrate past achievements, but also an opportunity to renew their commitment to the institution’s future.

He also expressed appreciation for the people who had supported him throughout his leadership journey, reflecting on how some individuals who accompanied him when he first joined the school were no longer present.
His acknowledgement recognised the contributions of those who had played a part in the journey, including individuals whose support has helped lay the foundation for the progress being celebrated.
